In today’s society, there are numerous current events revolving around women and issues they’re facing from harassment to inequality. Due to the culture surrounding these issues, I wanted to focus on the gender wage gap present in today’s climate for my infographic project. I aimed to highlight how prevalent of an issue inequal pay truly is for women across America as well as pointing out the extent of the matter in a broader sense. I focused on the way the wage gap is prominent throughout gender, countries, and races to bring a sense of urgency to the problem. I chose the data points presented in order to illustrate these concerns.
My infographic is divided into sections; starting with the fact that the gap isn’t uniform between states and certainly not between countries either. Following that, I wanted to point out how unequal pay is also not uniform over industries and jobs or even race, impacting women of all types. To finally pull together my infographic, I wanted to emphasize the ways the wage gap is impacting society and the women who experience it. Considering this matter is a major one in today’s political climate, I concluded with an inclusive call to action that anyone can follow. I chose to visualize my points simplistically, in order to make sure the actual statistics were focused on in ways where viewers could truly grasp the extent of them. I believe the more information people consume on matters these important will allow more action to actually take place and being able to contribute to the understanding of inequalities between women, especially in terms of payment, is something I’m truly proud to have accomplished.
